Their usually said in Fighting Styles that the meaning doesnt lie in how good you are or what gear you've, somewhat the meaning is based on the trip. Before I enter What Black Belt Means To Me, I would want to speak about my journey of those past few months.

The Vacation

I had flown to Nashville to check for my long awaited San Dan (3rd diploma Black Belt - That is a lot like getting the state Teacher) last week. Visit www.huffingtonpost.com/tyler-collins/ to study where to look at it. Before the test I'd been teaching consistently since April of this season at a friends dojo and my local gym.

It'd been about 5 years since Ive last practiced my discipline, Wado-Ryu Karate-Do, so my remembrance of the device was very vague. After seeing numerous tapes of myself as a new martial artist, I'd re-learned my under belt curriculum, nevertheless I was struggling to recall my black belt curriculum. Ones under gear understanding is important because it is considered as the building blocks of ones training, knowing something about martial-arts. On-the other hand, a great deal of people think that your education truly begins when you achieve your first black belt. I couldnt agree more. My meaning about the fighting styles and Wado-Ryu had grown significantly when I was offered to Sho Dan (1st Degree Black Belt) and I began to really learn.

In any event, I needed to learn everything that may have possibly been cast at me because it had been 10 years since my last official test.

In July, I went to Nashville to train with my highly recognized and beloved teacher Sensei Wayne Tyler. Browse here at https://tyler-collins.com to read the reason for it. Imagine being a scientist and your teacher was Albert Einstein that's what it is like to be under the wing of Sensei Tyler (or Mr. Tyler, as I call him). I used to be in Nashville training with Sensei 2 3 hours every day for 5 days. I caught up on my program and took the knowledge that was passed down by him and applied it to my education back Denver.

Again, because I didnt know what to anticipate, I trained myself to be ready for almost anything. Not only was I practicing my principles and katas (Japanese forms), but I was also working about 6 7 miles on the stationary bicycle, 15-20 minutes on the rowing machine and 2 miles, three days per week. I dont think I could have been more prepared for this test.

I effectively passed my test and was promoted to San Dan on October 17th 2006. I should say, it was certainly one of my greatest achievements in my own martial-arts job and a dream come true. It's taken me many years to attain this goal, but it has strengthened my interpretation to be a black belt, or in my case San Dan..
