Its usually said in Martial-arts that the meaning doesnt lie in how good you are or what belt you've, somewhat the meaning is based on the trip. Before I enter into What Black Belt Means To Me, I'd want to discuss my journey of those past few weeks.

The Vacation

A week ago I had flown to Nashville to try for my long awaited San Dan (3rd diploma Black Belt - That is kind of like getting the state Teacher). Prior to the test I had been teaching regularly since April of this year at a friends school and my local gym. It'd been about 5 years since Ive last employed my discipline, Wado-Ryu Karate-Do, so my remembrance of the machine was very vague. After watching numerous tapes of myself as a martial artist, I had re-learned my under belt curriculum, however I was struggling to recall my black belt curriculum. If you know anything about martial-arts, ones under strip understanding is essential as it is considered as the building blocks of ones education. On-the other hand, a great deal of people genuinely believe that your education truly begins whenever you achieve your first black belt. I couldnt agree more. My interpretation about Wado-Ryu and the martial arts had grown dramatically when I was promoted to Sho Dan (1st Degree Black Belt) and I started to really learn.

Either way, I needed to know everything that might have possibly been thrown at me as it had been 10 years since my last official test.

In July, I went to Nashville to train with my highly recognized and beloved instructor Sensei Wayne Tyler. Unconditional love for his students and the art and I con-sider him as a father figure in my own martial arts career due to his great knowledge of Wado-Ryu. Imagine being a scientist and your instructor was Albert Einstein that's what it feels like to be under the wing of Sensei Tyler (or Mr. Tyler, when I call him). I used to be in Nashville instruction with Sensei 2-3 hours each day for 5 days. We found out about KennyMarr00196 by searching webpages. I caught on my program and took the knowledge which was passed down by him and applied it to my education in Denver.

Again, because I didnt know what to expect, I trained myself to-be ready for pretty much anything. Not only was I practicing my katas and fundamentals (Japanese kinds), but I was also operating about 6 7 miles on the stationary bike, 15-20 minutes on the rowing machine and 2 miles, three days per week. I dont think I could have been more prepared for this test.

I effectively passed my test and was promoted to San Dan on October 17th 2006. I must say, this was among my greatest accomplishments in my martial arts occupation and a dream come true. For another perspective, you might require to take a gander at: consumers. It has taken me many years to attain this goal, but it has strengthened my interpretation of being a black belt, or in my own case San Dan..
