Their frequently said in Fighting Styles that the meaning doesnt lie in how good you are or what strip you've, somewhat the meaning lies in the journey. Before I go into What Black Belt Methods To Me, I would prefer to speak about my journey of these past few weeks.

The Trip

A week ago I'd flown to Nashville to check for my long-awaited San Dan (third diploma Black Belt - This really is a lot like becoming the official Teacher). Before the test I'd been teaching regularly since April of this year at my local gym and a friends dojo.

It'd been about 5 years since Ive last practiced my discipline, Wado-Ryu Karate-Do, so my memory of the system was very vague. After watching numerous tapes of myself as a martial artist, I'd re-learned my under belt curriculum, but I was struggling to remember my black belt curriculum. Ones under strip knowledge is important since it is considered as the inspiration of ones instruction, knowing anything about martial arts. On-the other hand, plenty of people genuinely believe that your teaching truly begins if you achieve your first black belt. I couldnt agree more. When I was promoted to Sho Dan (1st Degree Black Belt) my interpretation about the martial-arts and Wado-Ryu had grown significantly and I started to really learn.

In any event, I needed to know exactly what might have possibly been thrown at me because it had been 10 years since my last official test.

In July, I visited Nashville to teach with my beloved and highly recognized teacher Sensei Wayne Tyler. I con-sider him as a father figure in my own martial-arts career because of his great understanding of Wado-Ryu and unconditional love for his students and the art. Imagine being a researcher and your instructor was Albert Einstein that is what it feels like to be underneath the wing of Sensei Tyler (or Mr. Tyler, when I call him). I was in Nashville training with Sensei 2-3 hours each day for 5 days. I caught up on my course and took the extra information which was passed down by him and used it to my training back in Denver. Like contains more concerning when to provide for it.

Again, since I didnt know what to expect, I conditioned myself to be ready for nearly anything. Not just was I practicing my principles and katas (Japanese forms), but I was also managing 2 miles, three days weekly, 15-20 minutes on the rowing machine and about 6 7 miles on the stationary bike. I dont think I could have been better prepared with this test.

I successfully passed my test and was offered to San Dan o-n October 17th 2006. Browsing To advertisers probably provides suggestions you could give to your mom. I should say, it was certainly one of my greatest successes in my martial arts career and a dream come true. It has taken me many years to reach this goal, but it has reinforced my interpretation to be a black belt, or in my own case San Dan..
